Reuse at Bristol Waste

At Bristol Waste, we have a clear opportunity we have to divert good condition, fit-for-purpose items from the waste stream, get them into the hands of people who can use them.

Since our founding, reuse has been a key part of our vision. By opening a shop for residents, we believe we can improve upon the great work already started by reuse-focused organisations in Bristol. Our facilities will be built into our existing Avonmouth Household Waste and Recycling Centre as well as being a focal point for our third site, scheduled to open in 2020. Until then, our reuse team has begun establishing relationships with partners who can take items from our recycling centres, refurbish them and put them back into community and into use, as well as holding our own quarterly reuse sales.

In October 2018, only seven months after our projects began, the reuse team was delighted to have been awarded Best Waste Minimisation or Prevention Project by the Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee (LARAC) for their work diverting various types of reusable items from the waste stream.
