Our Bristol Doors Open Days Experience
"It’s always nice to speak to residents face to face and help clarify any processes we have or what we can and cannot accept. It makes me feel like I’m making a difference.” - Dudley Hackling
For the first time ever, our Albert Road Depot opened for tours for Bristol Doors Open Days 2017. Our 24 slots sold out within hours and we were excited to greet those enthusiastic to see where their recycling ends up after it is collected from their home.
Armed with high visibility vests and steel toe capped boots, our Transfer Station Supervisor, Craig Powell, along with his staff Ben Foster, Gabor Hermesz and Neil Bond, toured 136 people around the station and depot. The tour impressed both young and old, with facts and details on our recycling procedures for those with a keen environmental interest and the opportunity to get up close and personal with a recycling truck, forklift and frontend loading shovel which excited our smaller visitors.
“We all really enjoyed the event and took a lot away from it ourselves,” said Craig. “The residents had a lot of questions about how their recycling is managed after it comes to us. I hope that by giving them details on what we collect and how it is managed, they will look differently at the recyclable items in their home and put more in their boxes.”
“I enjoyed being able to explain how our vehicles work,” said Dudley Hackling, a recycling operative who volunteered throughout the weekend. “It’s always nice to speak to residents face to face and help clarify any processes we have or what we can and cannot accept. It makes me feel like I’m making a difference.”
